Mid-Century Shopping – Lighting at Local Antique Store

sara-running-015Here are some lamps that we found for sale in a local antique shop.  I was so thrilled to walk past the display in their front window, they had tons of Mid-Mod furniture, lighting, dishes and glassware. These are some of the lamps that Hubs and I found to be particularly awesome.

A great 60’s/70’s stained glass lamp.  I love the gold and wood accents. sara-running-014

A great 1950’s saucer light. I was pushing Hubs on this for the kitchen, but the $350 price tag kind of put it out of the park for us. And…the grand finale….sara-running-013

An original Sputnik light!  This beauty almost had Hubs in tears, and I shed a few myself over the $650 price tag.  The strangest thing was that it didn’t have wires at the top, but a PLUG. How the heck is that supposed to work?

Anyway, we had to leave it for another day.  But I think we might be seriously considering purchasing a new Sputnik light, rather than waiting for an vintage one…

Wow – thanks for the info and the pics, Pam! Makes me wish we had a spot in our decor for that Moe light.

Oh my gosh, I TOTALLY love those Sputnik lights! I have wanted one for a while now too. $650 does seem pretty high, you may be able to get one off e-bay for a better price, or a repro would definitely work too – and it would be cheaper! There is this place here called Construction Lots, it is kind of like a Home Depot/Restore. They will take donations, and they also have brand new things for sale. They will also buy out old store stock to sell. One day my Mom, husband, and I were there and we happened to be walking by this HUGE bin of random light bulbs – all just thrown into this big box. My husband noticed the starburst bulb out of the corner of his eye. So there we were, all 3 of us, digging through this HUGE bin of bulbs (probably 3 feet wide and 2 feet deep) to find every starburst bulb we could find (and getting really dirty in the process). I could not pass them up for only $2 each. I think we managed to find about 20 of them! I asked where they had gotten all the bulbs from and they said it was a buyout from a lighting shop that had closed down. Now I just have to find a Sputnik light!!!

Sara – Oh my god, that sounds awesome! I am so jealous. I will let you know how the quest for a Sputnik progresses. I will check ebay out and see what they have…
