Mid-Century Home – The Perfect Table

We are on the search for the perfect table.  I mean, you have to buy some furniture when you buy a new house, right?  And a table is really the only thing we don’t have. Our house has tons and tons of built-ins, including everything for all the bedrooms and the bathrooms. We bought living room furniture when we moved into our rental, and it looks great in the new living room. That doesn’t really leave us with much. Except the kitchen table.

Our first choice is high quality vintage. We are going to spend a year or so scouring every flea market, auction, estate sale and garage sale we can find looking for the perfect table.  And I have seen them in other people’s houses, so I know they exist. My ideal table would be the rounded off rectangle with boomarang back chairs.

If we don’t find a table in one year, we are going with the back-up plan: Skovby

The reason we are choosing them is twofold. Reason the first: they have the rounded off rectangle table I am so interested in.  Reason the second: The line is carried by the local furniture store where we buy all of our furniture, so it is perfect. Chair Style

Here is the style of chair that we like.

Table Style

Here is the style of table.

So, that is the plan so far. Do you like? Not like? Have a better idea?  Let me know!

I quite like both your choices here. They look like a great back-up plan if you don’t find the perfect vintage set. I like the china hutch in the background as well. Can’t wait to see what you end up getting!

I nominated you for a blog award! Check it out here:

I wish it were more stylish, but it’s my first one, and I wanted to share!

    Hi Lisa!

Thanks for the feedback and the award! I was going to leave some comments on your site, but I keep getting errors when I try. Oh well!

The table and chairs are really gorgeous, and the china hutch is fab too. It would look great in your house. It has a very Danish/Modern look to it. I had it in my head, about 5 or 6 years ago that I HAD to have a Heywood Wakefield dining set. So we actually managed to find the exact set I wanted here in AZ, the only problem was that it had to be TOTALLY refinished. I took on the task all by my lonesome, since it was my pet project, hubby helped me dismantle the whole table though. It took me SOOOO long to actually finish the table and chairs because other things would come up, and sanding down the old finish took forever. Seriously, it probably took me 3 to 4 years to finish everything. I do not want to ever refinish a whole dining set again!!! But, I LOVE it now that it is done!

Thanks for the feedback, Sara. I would LOVE to see a pic of that table and chairs you refinished. Do you have a Flickr account? Otherwise, email them my way!

The table and chairs would look great in your home, Ruth and still look retro.
