Vintage Roadsigns and Morel Mushroom Festival

morel-mushroom-festival-09-005I hope everyone had a great weekend!  Hubs and I were super busy, as always.  We went to the Morel Mushroom Festival in Boyne City on Friday with our friend, Sara, and we had a great time!  On Saturday we did errands and yardwork, and on Sunday we cleaned up around here. Thanks goodness for Monday, now I can finally rest. 🙂

Anyway, here are some pics from the Morel Mushroom Festival.

This cute little lamb is a piece of some vintage playground equipment at a stop on the way up to Boyne City.  I just love his little expression, so I had to take a picture!

morel-mushroom-festival-09-008This is a great vintage sign that we saw on our way to Boyne City.  There were many more roadsigns that were older up in that area, but this is the only picture that turned out, unfortunately.  morel-mushroom-festival-09-023

More strange roadside stops.  This is from a place where they make concrete statuary.  I am assuming they are just to make suckers like us stop to take pictures, and then buy something. It totally worked on us.  I had to have a picture of the pink elephant!

morel-mushroom-festival-09-029Another strange roadside “attraction”.  Not sure what this means or is here for, but it was a tree filled with pairs of shoes!  It was so bizarre, just on the side of the road with no explanation or anything.  But the strange thing was…I totally wanted to stop and throw my shoes up there!  Good thing Hubs was driving…new-photos-508And here we are, enjoying the festival!

Hope everyone has a great Monday!

Fun post–I recognize many of these sights from our trips up north! I love driving by that crazy concrete statuary. Have you ever seen the big chicken at the Cherry Bowl drive-in in Honor, Michigan?

I’ve never been to the Morel Festival. Did they have lots of delicious morel-based treats for sale?

ha ha! Nope, Karen, we haven’t seen that yet. I will be sure to tell Hubs about it, he will be wanting to go there next.

They did have some treats, but mostly just morels for sale. We bought about a half-pound, which is actually a ton of mushrooms. And they were huge this year!

Really cut pics Ruth! It looks like you two had a great trip. You guys should stay at the Chateau Motel sometime and see if the rooms are totally retro. My Mom and I stayed at a motel from the 50s/60s about 3 years ago and the bathroom was totally retro – with turquoise tiles and all!
