Vintage Crafty Saturdays – Making A Vintage Lampshade

Sewing 1001

Happy Saturday, everyone! Welcome to my new feature on the blog, Vintage Crafty Saturdays.  I have a huge collection of vintage crafting books and ideas, so I thought I would make them available to you and post a new project for you to work on every Satuday.  I originally thought it would be a great idea to craft along with this series, but I just don’t have the time. But that doesn’t mean that you guys should be deprived of some great ideas!

In any case, the first of these new posts come from a great book my mom got me for my birthday, Sewing by Ruth Wyeth Spears.  It seems that Ms. Spears was a columnist for a long time, writing a newspaper column called “How To Sew”.  A bunch of her columns were collected into a great set of sewing books, which were published in 1941.  I love these books, not only for their great sewing  ideas, but because of the awesome vintage illustrations!

The first lesson from the book is directions to make a vintage lampshade.Sewing 1012

Sorry for the small size, hopefully you can read it, Sable! 🙂  You should be able to click on it to see a bigger version. Enjoy!
