Vintage Crafty Saturdays – Pinch-Pleat Curtains

Sewing 1001Welcome to Vintage Crafty Saturdays here on the blog!  Tom and I are running around like crazy right now, packing like idiots for our trip to Aruba in a few days, but hopefuly you guys have enough time to relax and be a little crafty today.  Or at least time to read about the craft here on the blog. 🙂

This crafting post is dedicated to everyone’s favorite mid-century curtains: pinch pleats.  While we have a ton of white pinch-pleats in our three season porch, we still need to convert a bunch of curtains in the living room to pinch pleats. We have come up with a short-term solution of just clipping them up there, but the cats decided it is really fun to roll themselves up like little sausages in the curtains and pull them down.

So, this is to help everyone like me who needs to get some curtains up on those pinch pleat rods! It may not be a comprehensive tutorial, but I thought the measurement guidelines were good ones, because I for one had no clue how big the pleats should be.

LOL @ cats rolling themselves into little sausages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Funny you should bring this topic up, Ruth, as last night I found an ad in my 1957 Home Plans magazine about the Kirsch Easypleat, which is a device to make pinch pleats.

I’d like to try making drapes with pinch pleats. Ruth, all you ever see are white-white-white pinch pleated drapes, no colors or prints/patterns!

Don’t know about you, Sara, but every time I think of the cats rolling themselves into little sausages, I laugh until I cry! I can just visualize it!

Ruth, if you ever get a chance to snap a photo of your furkids doing this, please, please post it here!

    I need a hanky! LOL!

Oh, yes, the sausage kitties. Mine cat loves to do this. I have some drapes with pinch pleats in the dining room. I’ve come home many times to find them in the floor.

Ruth – totally get a pic if you can, of the kitties!

Sable – I’ll bet the cats look hilarious. I love patterened drapes too, esp. with the 50s atomic desgins all over them, or the old tropical prints too. You should put some of those pinch pleats up in your home.

Alex – what pattern are your pinch pleats?
