What do you know about Silvalyte?

A Silvalyte Dish In My Etsy Store!

Well, I’ll tell you what I know from research for my new shop listing. Produced from 1955-1965, this product was made by the Silvalyte company in Brooklyn, New York.  According to a pamphlet from the company, The amazing finish which is the distinguishing feature of Silvalyte is the result of over 10 years of intensive laboratory research.

Hmm…so what is it. Really? Well, according to lindag618 on eBay, Silvalyte is Silver Nitrate over glass. They have a really cool Silvalyte candy dish for sale, and they state: HERALDED THE MID CENTURY TREND TOWARD ACHIEVING TRADITIONAL STYLE USING SPACE AGE INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY AND MATERIALS.  MIXING WITH THE WARMTH OF STERLING OR THE GLEAM OF CHROME FOR 2 UNIQUE STYLES.

Ahh…I love mid-century design.  Unique items around every corner!

In any case, the reason I am doing all this looking around is that I found Silvalyte candy/nut/snack dish while thrifting that I just listed in my Etsy store. It is a really nice dish, a little wear on it, but very mid-century modern!

Hubs has insisted that I start listing more of my thrifting finds, since I love them all so much that they are starting to take over the house. Sheesh.

In any case, if you know something about Silvalyte or if you have pictures of your collection, please leave a comment with the info or a link to your Flickr stream, or you could even email me the information!

And now, some Silvalyte slogans, found on various promotional material around the web:

Will not Burn

Will not Tarnish

Will not Stain

Easy to Clean, Just Rinse & Dry!

Durable finish

Easy to Clean

Moderately Priced

Cool bowl Ruth! And, no tarnishing – that is a bonus!

I have this problem, too. If only our mates would just learn to embrace the finds instead of wanting to get rid of them.

My finds are vintage patterns, and my guy says that I have too many… that I’ll never sew them all…. that they’re all the same… and that I should sell them! He just doesn’t understand that all dress patterns, say, are NOT the same, even if they look sort of similar. Sigh.

Hi Chantelle! I know what you mean, especially about the patterns. Do you want to know something hilarious? I collect vintage patterns too, even though I have never even sewed one. I used to buy them then sell them…now I just hoard them…
