Vintage Crafty Saturdays – A Scalloped Valance

Sewing 1001Hello everyone!  Welcome again to vintage craft ideas and fun, fun illustrations on Saturday morning.  Hopefully Tom and I are gallivanting across the countryside right now on a crazy adventure to find the best smoked fish, or something like that.  I always have the most fun with him doing that stuff.

Meanwhile, the uber-talent Ruth Wyeth Spears has another sewing lesson for us, complete with totally adorable 1930’s illustration.  I will use a different book next week, I promise.  But I just love these so much.

This week Ms. Wyeth Spears teaches us how to make the most enchanting scalloped valance.  We also get some tips on decorating as a bonus.  According to Ms. Wyeth Spears, your scalloped valance should echo a strong color in your room. Hmmm…I wonder what a chartreuse valance would look like….

Once again, click to see a full-sized version!

Bob and I used to go traveling around the state and in Indiana looking for things of interest off the beaten path. It is always fun doing that with your best friend, right, Ruth! Find some smoked fish and have it with some bagels, cream cheese and onion!

Ohhh Sable – smoked whitefish is the BEST!!! I need some! I finally had perch, when we were in Michigan last week, it was YUMMMMMY!!! I had not had it in like 8 or 9 years. We had it at PM Steamers in Ludington and it was really great!

The curtains are SO cute! I wish I could sew like that too!!!
