Tuesday’s Retro Guest – Retro Pictures Around Globe & Miami Arizona

I have decided I want to hear more stories of mid-century obsessions and finds from you great readers, and so I am going to start a segment call Tuesday’s Retro Guest.  Every Tuesday I will have a fun guest blogger to show you some great pics or give some great decorating ideas.  If you would like to submit a guest post, email me an idea at nopatternrequired at hotmail.com and we can chat!
This week’s guest post comes from loyal reader and frequent contributor, Sara! If you don’t remember Sara, check out the fantastic post on refinishing her Heywood Wakefield table after you read the great post below.  Enjoy!
I think Mike and I have a problem, a very BIG problem – it is called antiquing! he he! Any chance we can get we will go antiquing – even plan trips around it. Do you hear me “World’s Largest Yard Sale”, on Hwy. 127, we are coming for you and we will be there one day, I promise you! But, it can’t be just any antiques, No Siree, it has to be funky, and kitschy, and totally retro. These pictures are all from an antiquing trip Mike and I took to Globe and Miami Az. It is about an hour or so northeast of Phoenix. These are very, very small towns practically right next to each other. They are old Copper Mining towns and they still have that “Main” street feel. A lot of the buildings are still pretty original to when they were built. We like to go hunt for antiques there because it is a nice break from crazy Phoenix – plus the temps are a bit cooler too! So, the next posting I will show the funky, retro stuff we found; but this posting is all about the retro buildings around Globe/Miami Arizona.
The first pics are of a Starburst awning outside a Miami Az shop. We all LOVE those old metal awnings here, so I thought I had better get some snaps of this one! I thought this was the coolest awning ever, with all of the Starbursts on the underside! Mike swears that his Grandpa used to install this EXACT same type of awning back in Ionia, Michigan! Mike remembers seeing tons and tons of this awning material in his Grandpa’s storage buildings. Unfortunately, Mike thinks it has all been sold off or thrown out after his Grandpa passed away over 10 years ago. Wouldn’t this just be the bomb to have on your MCM house though!
I am TOTALLY in LOVE with this store front in Globe Az. I have no idea what the store actually is, but I had to get a pic of the front. I love the big round windows. AND, the entire front of the store is covered in WAY cool pink and brown tiles!!! LOVE IT!!! Perhaps it was originally a Beauty Salon, or a 1950’s Dress Shop, one can only imagine. Ooh, I can just picture some beautiful 50’s dresses in those round front windows.
Lastly, is my fave house back in Miami Az. This house is just right there on the main highway, so I made Mike stop so I could get better pics of it. All, the cars whizzing by must have thought I was insane, practically out on the highway to get these shots! But hey, this girl will do what is needed to get the pictures to you. Can you feel the retro love for this house, I can. It almost makes me want to move to Miami Az, but Mike does not really know anything about Copper Mining – so I guess that is out of the question. Anyway, you can tell it is a modern ranch type of house with the flat roof and all, and you gotta love all those concrete blocks with the funky design! Oh how I would LOVE to get inside of this house. Should I beg them for a tour????
So there you go! Some of my favorite shots from Globe/Miami Arizona.

Sara – Ha ha! Blogger’s anxiety! Tell me about it….I am terrified everyday that no one will show up on the blog. 🙂

And yes, Sable, we MUST see pictures. I vote for that for next Tuesday!
