Kelly’s Christmas Contest Entry – Mid-Century Modern Christmas at Kelly’s!

A great Christmas photo and story for the contest from Kelly, aka Earthakitsch.  This is going to be a hard call to pick a winner!  Glad it is going to be you guys voting, and not me!

This is a photo of my living room last Christmas. For years, I hadn’t
had the time or energy to fully decorate due to extensive renovations
on our house. I’d always felt pretty sad about it as it’s in my blood
to go nuts over Christmas decorating. My Mom has at least six
Christmas trees every year and after running out of things to
decorate, my late grandmother even hung red satin balls on the
antlers of her taxidermy deer every Christmas.

Last year, the pieces just kind of fell together: My Mom gave me this
beautiful aluminum Christmas tree with color wheel and I had some
really charmed luck at thrift stores, netting lots of vintage
decorations on the cheap. The mother of all finds was the set of
light-up lawn deer that I had wanted forever. You’ll see one of them
in front of the mantle. Our neighborhood isn’t great for leaving
things on the lawn if you want to keep them, so it’s probably
frivolous for me to own an entire team of lawn deer. They’re just
going to have to be house deer. : ) This was the first Christmas
that felt like Christmas in a long time. Everything glowed and hummed
with such joy.

Thanks so much!

Great story and photo, Kelly!  Thanks so much for the entry.  I adore your clock and table. Very cool stuff.

Thanks so much, Paulette! It all came together nicely that year. Now who’s to say what’s going to happen this year! We bought another house and started the madness over.

Oh, Hi Eartha! I really enjoy your site over on Flickr, you do a great job with it! I suppose I should comment sometime. 🙂 You have some great Christmas decorations. How totally awesome that your Mom gave you the tree and color wheel – are you lucky or what! Great photo composition, but you always do a great job with your photos anyways!

    Hey Sara!

Thanks so much! You’re sweet to say so! : )
Yes, luckily my Mom finally ran out of room for trees and I hit the aluminum tree payload! I love that painfully sharp, pretty tree. : )

    Say hey on Flickr now.

Hi Kelly. Fantastic Photo. May I have permission to use it as the cover of my Mid Century Merry Christmas Music Mix CD this year. I have been doing mixes for 20 years now and this photo would be prefect for this year’s theme. Let me know, huh? Great taste. No waste.

    The Merriest,

Fantastic holiday photo! Are those bubble lights on the mantle?
I love your style and the deer is amazing. I have to find one for my retro nook. Love this website: I just stumbled along and I will be back!
