The Glorious Mid-Century Test Kitchens at Betty Crocker

I stumbled on the most amazing cookbook the other day at an Estate Sale.  Betty Crocker’s Picture Cookbook, published in 1950, is a fantastic book for anyone who has a passion for mid-century cooking.  Not that anyone in our house does.  Nope, not even close. Ahem.

Anyway, besides being able to read the book like a novel, I was thrilled to see the Picture Cookbook has several marvelous pictures of the test kitchens at Betty Crocker in the 1950’s.  They were too awesome to keep to myself! Be sure to click on the pictures so you can examine the kitchens in detail.

The Polka Dot kitchen is are probably my favorite but I love the design going on in the “Kitchen of Tomorrow.” Those Swedish figures on the walls look so neat! That design would look so terrific in a storybook ranch home. Thanks for sharing these pics!

I have a weakness for the blue kitchen, of course! 🙂 That metal-edged countertop is exactly what I need in my place.

I agree, the Kitchen of Tomorrow is totally a keeper!

I remember my mother’s copy of this cookbook from childhood. Sadly, she misplaced it over the years; however, this marvelous book is being reprinted in all its ’50’s glory. I bought a copy at a local cookware shop and it brought back so many memories. The photos and graphics will knock your socks off and the recipes are really……OK. So glad you featured this one!
