Tuesday’s Retro Guest – Sara’s Odds and Ends, and Merry Christmas Too!

Thanks to Sara for this awesome Christmas post!!!  The surprise ending is the best!

But, before I get into all the Christmas cheer, I need to get one thing out of the way first! I spotted some Broyhill Brasilia at my local Goodwill 2 weeks ago and I had to take some pics for y’all. This furniture can be SOOO gorgeous, IF it is in good shape. Well, you can all see this lacks the “good shape”!

That is not just dust, those are huge scratches and marks all over this poor piece of furniture. Is that a burn towards the back? EEPS!!!

The bottom rail has also fallen off. What were these people doing with this furniture?

This furniture has such cool detail on it, it is too bad the condition is SO bad.

The price was right, at $29.99 – actually someone bought it for half that because it was sold by the time I got back to the Goodwill on Sale Day Saturday.

There was also another dresser (different style) at this same Goodwill about 2 months ago – in the same pristine condition! 🙂 It also sold (before I could get pics) on Sale Day Saturday. I wonder if the same person bought both of them? I do not envy all the work they will have to put in to these pieces, but the furniture sure is cool!

Since this is my last post before the holiday I had to get all the Christmas goodies in now.

So, on with the Christmas Fun! I had to show everyone this old newspaper ad from 1961. I really think it is a hoot.

Ira 1961

This is actually a photo of my Father-In-Law, working in Meijer’s Grocery store in Grand Haven, Michigan in 1961. I just think this ad is the bomb, and I had to post it. He was probably18 or 19 at the time. I told my husband’s parents I would love to “jump” into this photo and rummage through that Christmas display! It would also be so cool to meet Mike’s Dad at that time and see what he was like back then. Anyway, I thought y’all would get a kick out of this retro Christmas Ad.

It is Tree Time! Merry Christmas Everyone!

So, I thought I would post some pics of my Aluminum Tree. I have actually had this tree for a while, we put it up every year. We bought all of the ornaments at Estate Sales or Goodwill. I seriously love the goofiest stuff, so our tree has all those crazy old elves all over it.

Plus, we have mice too! Hide the cheese please!

I found these kooky mouse ornaments at an Estate Sale for like 75 cents – for all of them. I thought they were so crazy we had to get them. The Mother Mouse still had her paper tag on and it’s marked ‘1968, Made In Japan’ . The Dad Mouse has a Smoking Pipe, but we have asked him politely not to smoke in the house please. 🙂

OK, is everyone still with me? Is this post WAY too long?

This last pic is a shout out to my friend Eartha.

She took a break from the web for a bit.

So, Eartha, it is good to have you back girl, we ALL missed you!

Ha! Oh my gosh! That meet-up has chills running up and down my spine. If those two know what’s best for them, they’ll turn right back around.

p.s. Thanks! I’m glad to be back! I’ve got to catch up on all of the great posts here.

That Brasilia makes me want to cry. We can only hope that someone got it who is a master refinisher and that it will shine again!

I loooove your tree and the mice are fantastic! Happy Holidays!

Thanks Kelly! I think they heard about the mayhem Satan Claws has been up to, and reports are they are now headed to California. 😉

I really hope the Brasilia has gone to someone who can bring it back to life, it can be so gorgeous.

Thanks for the compliment on my tree, your tree is just as awesome – probably more so! You have a great holiday too!

    Great post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL, I’m dying from laughter over the van-jacking!!!!!!!!!!!!

The news photo of your father-in-law working at Meijer’s; weird because now Meijer’s is a mega store, and even weirder is that the store was in Grand Haven, not that far away from me!!!!!!

    Sableeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks girl! I thought you would get a kick out of the Dream Pets van-jacking too. 🙂 Mike saw the pic and totally laughed because he thought it looked so goofy!

My Mom became like totally obsessed with Meijer’s when we were there this summer. She wanted to go in practically every one that we passed. Hey, maybe you crossed paths with my FIL, back in the 60s, without even knowing it???

Thanks for the compliment on my tree, I CANNOT wait to see yours!

Kind of OT from your Christmas post, but I love your curtains that are behind your awesome tree! Are those barkcloth?

Oh, that poor credenza! Did you see this EXACT same one (but in mint condition) on DesignSponge today: http://www.designspongeonline.com/2009/12/sneak-peek-eleanor-grosch.html

Oh, how I would have loved to get my hands on that cheap one and refinish it.
