Won’t You Be My Neighbor? – 1938 English Country Style Home

So, this is a little different than what I usually post, but I decided to take a break from mid-century modern and mid-century traditional and do a really cute 1930’s  English Country style house.

This beautiful 3,360 square foot house is a little more grand that I usually post, but for all its impressive outside, this house is really kind of looks like a cozy little home inside. Built in 1938, this home is located on the other side of the country club from where we have our house, and everything is a little more grand and enormous over there.  They are asking $318,000 for this house, and it is totally worth every penny.

Pretty sweet, huh?

Here is the backyard of the house.  It is on a corner lot, so it isn’t a very private backyard, but I like it just the same.  If you look closely you can see the awesome light they have in the back, a long pole with several lights branching off of it.  There are other lights like that in our neighborhood and they are vintage.  Not sure how old, but I am sure I love them!

Slate tile and excellent built-ins!

Kitchen with parquet flooring and shuttered cabinets.  I wasn’t sure until recently if these were vintage, but after seeing them in several other time capsule houses in the area, I believe they are.  I don’t know if they are 1930’s, though. Maybe a later addition.  Anyone with more info, feel free to share!

Another view of the kitchen.

So cute!  Love the built-ins in this room.

Cute bathroom!!!

Love the built-ins and that chair.

That little sink next to the bed is such a cute idea.  And I love the little reading lamp over the bed.

Window seat!

More built-ins, although they aren’t as cute as some of the others.

And finally, the excellent, excellent basement.  Check out that killer floor!!

What a lovely house. I would say the kitchen is 70s or 80s — you can tell by the style of range, also the edging on the countertop. It looks very nicely done, though, I would keep it.

I love any vintage home! I’m always looking for details that will work in my current home or our “one-day-we’ll-build” home.

    Thanks for posting these pics!

Thanks for the wonderful photos of a really charming vintage home. We can draw inspiration from almost from any era, can’t we?

How stately and original! That house is the queen of built-ins. I love that tub and the basement floor and although I’d hate to try and keep those kitchen cabinet doors clean…I love them too.
