Won’t You Be My Neighbor – Time Capsules From Jan

Thanks for the great houses, Jan!

Finding time capsule homes around here is difficult.  Most of the homes built during the MCM period all have makeovers (Waaaaaaah!), but what did I find on Keller Williams website?  Follow up the lane!

Here we are at 343 Orlando Court in Benton Harbor, Michigan.

The house was built in 1941 and as far as I know, it has remained in the original owners’ family all this time.  Also, the street name is the first name of one of the family members.  Not sure if it’s the head of the house or other male member.  Orlando Ct. runs east from a main drag, Broadway.  But back in 1941, MCM homes had not yet been built around this house, so the family had the area practically to themselves.  Let’s go inside!

Not certain if this is the entryway or part of the walk-out.

This looks like the dining area.  Look at the mural of the seagulls on the wall!

The living room.

The kitchen.  Cabs and flooring look original.

One of the 3 bathrooms!

I don’t know if this is a bedroom or what, but look at the light fixture AND the drapes!

There are 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and basement.  Well water and septic, however, you can hook up to public water/sewer.  There is a walk-out lower level with a complete kitchen!  Total square feet is 2,307 and 6.70 acres of wooded land.  How much you ask?  $174,000.00!

Wow! This is a really great house Jan. I really love the turquoise bathroom. I can’t believe you also get 6 acres with this place – that is AMAZING!!! Great find!

Another tidbit: the family owned a furniture store with high quality furniture. Since the store was located in Fair Plain, I’m sure they got a lot of business from new MCM home owners.
