Won’t You Be My Neighbor – So Close To 1960’s Showplace In Birch Run

Today we have a time capsule house for sale in Birch Run, Michigan, which is about 45 minutes from our house in Midland.  This house was built in 1960, and could easily be a showplace with a little restoration.  Aaaand some of the current owner’s furniture!

This house is a little over 2100 square feet with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.  They are asking $89,500 for it, which is a flaming steal if the structure of the house is in good shape.

Love the fireplace with the floating stone shelves.  And if you look closely, you can see the slate tile in the entryway.

Holy furniture, Batman! That totally looks like Drexel furniture to me, or at least a good-looking Drexel knockoff.  A cute dining room. However, I would rip out that ceiling fan and do something about that closet in the back.

Wow. Fake Brick + Stripe Wallpaper = Too much.  However, I love the floor and the lights.

Another view of the kitchen.

Wood paneled family room.

Here is the master bedroom.  I love the bathroom, even though it looks like it might be a new bathroom done in a retro style.  But still pretty sweet!

Compared to Oregon prices that is a steal and a half!!

Our first house – a split level was $65,000, but that was 15 years ago. Our current ranch was purchased for $235k, with five acres, but it’s worth about twice that now. *faint*

That ranch is quite a bit larger then the one I currently live in.

I could do a lot with that.

Eighty nine thousand dollars!!!!!!!!! That’s beyond my comprehension! Around here, you might be able to buy a small boat slip for that!
Dang, am I jealous of all the incredible homes in Michigan and their low prices. Thanks for posting this, Ruth.

As another Michigander…well…it is not like that all over. I live about a mile from Lake Michigan across from Chicago, and housing prices here are through the ROOF. A house like that, here, would be something around $150K. If it were in the correct spot, it would be twice that at least.

Now, the question is, can I convince my huby to relocate??? LOL My folks live here, and we LOVE our church, but other than that…I could move. Easily.

Thanks for the great blog, have lurked for a while.
