MCM Home Improvement: Lawn Decor Part 3 (of 3)

By Sablemable aka Jan

I had planned something more elaborate for today’s post, but I’ve been going to rehabilitation for my legs, which have become weaker, and I’m pooped out from all the exercise!  My apologies to you.

At www.lawnornamentsandfountains.com I found these statues of a Dutch boy and girl.  Yes, they are very MCM lawn decor and I remember seeing them mostly dressed in blue.  They are made of concrete and the boy stands 21 inches tall, the girl 19 inches tall.  They come in red or blue and are $213.32.

Gnomes.  I read where these little guys have made a comeback in lawn decor, and again, gnomes were seen back in the good ol’ MCM days.  There is quite a variety to choose from and reluctantly, I was unable to find a photo of a vintage gnome.

This gnome is from Home Depot, is 21 inches tall, made of resin and fiberglass and costs $39.99.

For more original gnomes, please visit www.kimmelgnomes.com. Candice Kimmel, originally from Wales, hand makes classic gnomes in South Dakota (yes!  USA made!) and her gnomes are just what the MCM House Doc has ordered.  I would have featured her gnomes here today, but, after reading the fine print about copyrights, I was unable to show you her work.

Bird baths were found in the front and back yards of MCM home.  Concrete was the material back then and Lawn Ornaments and Fountains have a wonderful selection of concrete, 2 piece bird baths.  Here’s one sample of their stock.

I know you’re saying, “Hey, Jan!  Where are the hitching post lawn jockeys?”   Since the lawn jockeys faces were painted black, these statues have become distasteful to display  in your front yard and I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings.   ‘Nuff said.

What are your favorite lawn decorations?

Jan! Love the post. Around my parent’s retirement village in Wisconsin EVERYONE has those kissing dutch kids. However, they are all placed faaaaar apart as not to offend anyone. Seriously!

ooh! ahh! lawn ornaments! My favorites are the crazy old animal ones – deer, chickens, donkey carts. I’d LOVE to have a pair of those kissing Dutch kids too.

My great grandmother used to get a can of paint and paint every single yard ornament in her front yard the same color. I remember one time when she took this orange paint that looked like something that road crews would use and painted all of these chickens and chicks in her front yard bright florescent orange! 🙂 There were also the lions on each side of the front porch that had painted on mustaches….have mercy.

I hope that your rehab goes well, Jan. Thanks for bringing us lawn ornament love! 😀
