October 30, 2010Jason’s MCM Photos from Albuquerque,NM
I am interrupting our regularly scheduled programming to bring you: Houses!!!
Lots of houses! Lots and lots of houses!
These house pictures were sent in by Jason from Albequerque, NM.
Love the blog. My wife and I moved to Albuquerque, NM about a year ago and it turns out to be something of a midcentury paradise. The population absolutely exploded during and after WWII (it grew from 35,000 in 1940 to just over 200,000 by 1960); as a result, a good chunk of the town was built when midcentury design was at its height. While many houses here were built in a blechy faux-adobe style, there is plenty of mid-mod goodness as well. I’ve attached a few photos, but these are just a smattering of hundreds of groovy houses I’ve seen, and come from only two of at least six neighborhoods that are rife with midcentury homes.
We were lucky enough to get a house that was in fairly original condition. Bathroom tiles (one bathroom is even pink!), kitchen cabinets (though sadly not countertops), fireplace/hearth complete with wood paneling and built-in bookshelves, front door and all interior doors, and several light fixtures all remain intact and in good to excellent condition. (Ours is the one with the huge tree behind it and the weird spaceship-looking house peeking over from the right-hand side). I’m sure that many of the houses, sadly, have been “renovated” and thus have lost most of their charm, but others are still intact inside and out. Albuquerque of all places. Who knew?
Wow, this is amazing, Jason! You had me at “mid-century paradise”. 🙂
So enjoy the house pictures, and say a big “thank you” to Jason. Oh, and Jason, you totally need to send us pictures of the INSIDE of your house! I really want to see it now, because it sounds amazing. 🙂
Awesome!!!! Thanks so much, Jason. These houses are amazing.
