Vintage 1956 Sherwin-Williams Home Decorator Catalog

By Sara In AZ

I came across this 1956 Sherwin-Williams Home Decorator paint book at the same estate sale I found the vintage Crane catalogs at. I really love some of the images in this catalog, so I scanned the coolest pictures in the catalog for y’all to check out.

Click on any picture to enlarge it.

*WARNING* Some of the pictures may be drool-worthy, PLEASE have Kleenex ready! 🙂

I see someone must have had a lot of fun with a pencil in this catalog! 🙂

First up – PINK HOUSE ALERT!!! Love it!!!! If I could get my hands on this house, well lets just say I would probably never, ever want to leave the house again! Not even for groceries y’all!

Sputnik Light!!!! I love how this catalog gives you almost all of the information on the paint and products they have featured. They even state the sputnik is from Lightolier!

OMG! Totally in love with the living room. The couch, the pull down, the clock, everything . I could just move right in and be happy as a clam!

OK, can y’all tell what she is doing? She is painting her white metal cabinets pink! While I TOTALLY agree with the pink, I am not so sure about painting the cabinets with a brush. Hmmmm… Sherwin-Williams was hyping up that their paint dried just like a baked on enamel finish- with no brush marks. I’m not so sure about that………

Well, I don’t know y’all, maybe I am wrong about the paint. Do y’all suppose it could dry that nice — with no brush marks? They say they used Kem-Glo Green Stone on the uppers and Kem-Glo Camellia Pink on the lowers. They also say all the metal cabinets are from Lyon Metal Products. I can just imagine this kitchen in my little pink house, in the second picture, and all would be right in the world.

Another pink kitchen! Well I am just beside my self now y’all.

These cabinets are all Republic Steel Cabinets.

This next picture is interesting because they actually used a maple stain and varnish on the metal cabinets to give it a wood look.

These are also Republic Steel cabinets.

Here is a Republic Steel Kitchen and a Curtis Kitchen.

Super cute, and awesome, American Standard bathroom.

Even though I love Crane, American Standard is the bomb too!

Another fantastic American Standard bathroom, and 2 pictures of Beauty Queen vanities below!

I hope y’all enjoyed looking through the 1956 Sherwin-Williams catalog with me and I hope not too much drool was spilled on your keyboards!

Perfection! Period! All my personal favorite icons of MCM are pictured here: the SPUTNIK light, the pull down light, the sunburst clock, that sectional sofa, that buffet, the split leaf philodendron, that elevated kitchen, and PINK everything. Viva 1956!!!!!!!

Thank you, Sara! Thank you, Ruth! You’ve made my day.
