Won’t You Be My Neighbor? Ann Arbor, Michigan

By Sablemable aka Jan

Today’s home is a Lustron house that is for sale in Ann Arbor, Michigan (M Go Blue!).  A reader and friend of Ruth’s found the listing and sent it to Ruth, who sent it to me and now I’m sending it to you!  Thanks, Pat!  Great find!    And, thank you, Ruth for making my WYBMN post easy-peasy today!!!!

Our home is located at 1200 South 7th Street and was built in 1950.  There are 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 1,021 square feet and is going for $139,900.00.  Not bad.  The broker is Coldwell Banker Weir Manuel and the agent is Glenda Gerbstadt.  She may be reached at 734-668-2407.  Photos courtesy of www.realtor.com.

This is a darling home and pretty much untouched.  I don’t know much about Lustron Homes, but I like them!  I especially love the galley kitchen and all of the closet space/vanity in the master bedroom!

What say you, readers?

Lustron homes are such marvels! They were prefabricated out of steel with some portions covered in porcelain and made to include lots of space saving built-in options. And since they are steel, no painting needed. Being able to clean them with soap and water is one of the virtues.

Also, they have radiant heating with no vented air circulating so they were advertised as gathering very little dust on interior surfaces. Yay! for that!

There are only about 1500 left in existence of the less than 3000 made. Here is a two great sites to learn about them and see photos:

I’d love to have one! I’d snatch it up in a heart beat. This one is really cool.
