A Birthday With A Kit-Cat Clock

By RetroRuth

I hope everyone had a fantastic Easter, ‘cause I know I did! My parents came for a nice long visit this weekend, which was tons of fun.  On Easter we ate an overly sweet ham and an insane amount of carrot cake with cream cheese frosting (recipes coming soon to the Mid-Century Menu!) and, to add another layer of fun, my birthday was also this weekend!  So oodles of presents and cards were arriving by the boatload.  It was grand. I even got something I have been wanting for a long time:

That’s right!!! It’s a reproduction Kit-Cat Clock! And it even moves! I was very, very excited with this one! (Thanks, Ma!)

I didn’t even know Kit-Cat Clocks were still being made in the US, but they are. And the clocks still have the eye and tail movement, which is the best! Check out the movement in this video from RetroPlanet.

And besides the awesome basic black with a bow-tie that I got, they are available in a slew of colors and variations (like jeweled!). Check the Kit-Cat Clock website out here to see how many different variations there are!

Tom and I are really excited about this one. We might just have to get a couple more of these babies for the house!

Ooooh, what an awesome gift! That is too cool, and they are reasonably priced, too. So many choices, I think I might have to get one, but it’s going to take me forever to decide!

I bought one years ago (probably 1980s). It’s so old that runs on electricity and has a plug! My first husband used to be irritated by the squeeky sound of the tail. I never really noticed, but removed the tail to placate him. I haven’t found a place yet in my new (old) home, as I need an outlet nearby. You can bet I will put the tail back on. LOL

Yay! I love kit-kat clocks! And happy birthday!

The eyes on our clock stop sometimes but with a quick nudge, they’ll start moving again.
