MCM Home Improvement: Exterior Lighting

By Sablemable aka Jan

Another project to my home is replacing the un-original exterior wall light and post lamp.  I have no idea what was installed when my home was first built, so I need to find something that gives it back its character.

Lumens website, www.lumens.com, has some new lighting that would complement an MCM exterior.

The Bangle wall lamp is made by Corbett Lighting.  It comes in Silver Leaf and Modern Bronze finishes, small and large sizes and will take either fluorescent or incandescent bulbs.  I love this one!

A more traditional lamp of colonial styling, the Benton wall lamp by Kichler Lighting has a modern twist.  The Benton comes in Olde Bronze finish and comes in small, medium, large and extra-large sizes.  Incandescent bulbs only.  The traditional colonial lamps were very popular with MCM home owners.

The Elm wall lamp by Hinkley Lighting also comes with a matching post light.  It comes in Distressed Amber finish and in small, medium and large sizes.  Incandescent bulbs only.

Although I like the Bangle wall light, it is very expensive and there’s no matching post light.  I am attracted to the second light, the Benton and the Elm is no slouch, either.  Nothing is final as I’m still doing research, hunting for the perfect MCM exterior lighting.

What’s outside your  MCM front door, readers?  Have you had to replace your lighting?  Where did you find the replacement?  Send photos if you got them!

Those are really pretty! We’ve got the standard porch lights which we call our “granny lights”. We love them. One came with the house and we found a replacement one for the other porch very cheaply from Home Depot or Lowe’s (can’t recall). They’re this style:

At our last house, we also had the matching post light.

This site has about a bazillion different styles of lights for outside: http://www.lightinguniverse.com/

    Love that Bangle light!!! Nice!!

We were lucky enough to have our original outdoor lights. We have a couple of cone/bullet lights and a post light that looks just the Benton, except with a slightly larger “cap”.

Earthaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!! Yes, I’ve seen those lights around the neighborhood and I like them, too. I visited Lighting Universe, but for some reason, I was unable to save an image of the various retro style lights they had. Thanks for the links!

Saraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!! Yes, I’m ga-ga over the Bangle; it would look great against the brick!

Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuth!!!!!! Where are the photos, dear heart? So much MCM to love and own!
