MCM Home Improvement: Photograph Display

By Sablemable aka Jan

We all have vintage portrait photographs hanging around (no pun intended) and I think displaying them in your MCM home is very era correct!

I took some framed photographs from Art.com (www.art.com) to show you how they can fit into your décor.  You can group them on a wall or place one or two (or more) on the fireplace mantel.

I have several hand painted photographs of family members and using either vintage-look or modern frames, these photographs will work with your décor.

Portraits from the Fifties are a great addition to your home!  I’m showing portraits of actors and singers, but we’ll just pretend they’re our relatives.

Other family photos can be added to the portrait groupings.

The piece de resistance is this photograph of my Bob when he was 2 years old (1934).  Bob told me that when his mother was in the hospital after giving birth to his sister, Lois, an uncle and aunt took him to the barber shop for his very first haircut.  Bob said when they took him up to see his mother, his mother was horrified, her son’s curls had been clipped!  But as Bob put it, “I was so proud and I bent over, almost standing on my head, pointing to my shorn head, saying, I went to the barber-hotch and got a hair-tuck!”

Bobby at 2 years old, wearing a light green and white sailor suit.

Our home is not MCM yet, but we display a large portrait of my husband’s mom’s first communion. It’s from the mid to late 50’s.
