June 17, 2011MCM Home Improvement: My Basement Floor
By Sablemable aka Jan
I found one more area in my 1955 ranch that needs improvement: the basement floor.
The family (hereby known as FR) still has the original tiles, all in time-capsule condition. The accent color is a yellowish-beige, the main color a dark brown. No worries here!
Sadly, the tiled area outside of the FR and just below the basement steps, needs to be replaced. It is literally crumbling into little pieces.
Since I’ve tried to find close-to-matching brown and failed, I decided maybe I need to shake it up a bit with some color.
The remaining basement is concrete painted gray. Dull.
I first learned of Azrock Flooring from Pam at Retro Renovation. I didn’t find a virtual flooring tool on Azrock’s website (www.azrock.com), so I made my own, saving the tile patterns and colors images from said site.
I like earth colors, blues and greens. I placed together some colors that would compliment the old tile.
Aquamarine from the Solidair line and Emerald from the Cortina Colors and Classics line.
Maple Sugar and Honey from the Cortina Colors and Classics line.
Coral from the Solidair line and Coral Reef from the Cortina Colors and Classics line.
I could also do just one color, but what fun would that be? But just in case, here are some more colors I like.
From the Cortina Colors and Classics line: Red Pepper, Pecan Pie and Denim.
And Lounge Green from the Solidair line.
Any suggestions, readers?
