MCM Neon Signs

By Sablemable aka Jan

What is it about vintage neon signs that attracts us?  They beckon us to come in, sit down, relax, have some fun and I can never stop myself from going into an establishment that has a vintage neon sign out front.

It’s hard to find a business that still has it’s original neon sign displayed and here in my corner of Michigan, the only oldie that I can recall still standing is the Henry’s Hamburgers sign.  Henry’s is still going strong and have consistently great food.  I have been eating there since they first opened in the late Fifties.

I searched Yahoo images for neon signs and here’s some to stir up old memories.

My favorite old time neon sign used to be the huge Magikist Carpet and Rug Cleaners lips in Chicago.  I understand that the sign has been removed and what a shame!  We always knew where we were when we saw those lips and at night, what a spectacle!

THE MAGIKIST SIGN!!! We always looked for it when we drove from Wisconsin to visit my Chicago grandmother. How sad that it’s gone.

I always looked for it on the way home from White Sox games. It’s a shame they took the lips down!

Propagatrix and Kim!!!!!! I miss that Magikist sign, too! Best when it was lit up at night, right!

Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuth! I was happy that the owners took the original sign with them to the new building. They have great burgers, fish sammies and other tasty morsals, always fresh, always hot. Their breakfast sandwiches are good, too! But they serve burgers at breakfast as well.
