Julia Child’s Kitchen And Atomic Obsessions From The Smithsonian

By RetroRuth

We were lucky enough to be able to pop in to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History while visiting some relatives in Washington D.C. recently. And man, were we glad we stopped! The museum is just PACKED full of fun stuff to see, and a lot of it is mid-century-tastic!

For example, there is a exhibition going on right now that is all about Julia Child. And here is her kitchen!

That’s right! The whole kitchen is on display at the museum. Love it!

Unfortunately, this is the best pic we got, since it was packed with people while we were there. But if you want to see more good pics, you can check out Charm and Poise’s stream on Flickr here. Also, the museum itself has tons more pictures online AND an extra online exhibit here!

We also got to see the Science In American Life exhibit, which Tom loved, of course.

The best was this bomb shelter from someone’s backyard, which we got a terrible, terrible picture of. You can see Tom actually taking the picture on the left. Ha!

Stay tuned for more Smithsonian fun!

Thanks for the link! I was so excited to see Julia’s kitchen, I totally teared up! She was such an inspiration for me as a kid and I can’t get enough of her spirit and charm.

The Smithsonian totally blew me away. Did you go to the First Ladies’ clothing exhibit? Holy nuts, I took so many pictures of dresses and gowns and shoes and purses … so fun!
