November 11, 2011OUR “ODDS ‘N ENDS” CONTEST ENTRY IDEAS
By Sablemable aka Jan
Are you wanting to enter our Odds ‘N Ends Contest but are stumped on project ideas? Since the prizes (3 this year!) are courtesy of What’s Buzzin’ (www.whatsbuzzin.com), a retro Christmas card site, I found three (3) Christmas décor projects that seem pretty easy to do and keep with the retro Christmas theme. Please help yourself to the details.
In the November-December 1959 issue of Workbench Magazine, it’s Christmas Trees From Your Workshop created from scraps of wood. Only one item needed threw me – a countersunk. A countersunk is an anchor bold/fastener. Mystery solved.
I cut out each “tree” pattern so it will be easy to copy/print out. But here’s the page as it is from the mag.
THE CHRISTMAS-TREE CARD HOLDER
WALL OR CENTERPIECE TREE
PICTURE-WINDOW CHRISTMAS TREE
You can copy these exactly or use your imagination and creativity to make it your own. Also, notice that the author of this page is, yes, a woman!
Now, a brief message about our contest. Let’s review the contest requirements.
1. Your entry project must be something that’s retro or uses retro/vintage materials and some of your submission has to be reused or thrifted EXAMPLE: for these projects, scrap wood, vintage tree ornaments, tinsel, etc. Even cherished Christmas cards received from days gone by would look great on the card holder tree. Get the picture?
2. You don’t have to complete the project, but you must show a photo with your progress. Or you can link to a finished project on Flickr or your blog. NOTE: Project/photos must not be more than 1 year old.
3. Submit photos/descriptions to firstname.lastname@example.org . If you have further questions about the contest, you may contact Ruth at the same email addy.
DEADLINE IS NOVEMBER 20, 2011 AT MIDNIGHT EST (EASTERN STANDARD TIME)!
So submit your projects, readers! I purchase my retro Xmas cards from What’s Buzzin’ and they are fantastic! You’ll receive lots of compliments from your friends and families.
