January 15, 2012Won’t You Be My Neighbor? Benton Harbor, Michigan
By Sablemable aka Jan
We’re going back to the Thirties today for our vintage home!
After doing the post on kitchens from the Thirties and Forties, I decided to find a near time-capsule home from that era.
Enter 1142 Salem Avenue. This end of Salem, along with Hannah Court and Robbins Avenue had business owners and other professionals as residents. The house has 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths and 1 half bath. It was built in 1937, has 1,535 square feet and only costs $130,000.00. Pete Jorgensen Real Estate has the listing and the phone number is 269-983-4715.

A BLACK OR NAVY BATHROOM
The kitchen could sure use a 1930’s remix and so could the bathroom. And I can’t tell if the bathroom is navy or black with either pale pink or beige tiles, but the fixtures are definitely from our time.
Out of curiosity, I looked in my 1956 Polk city directory and Mr. H. Lyon Day, who was the chief metalurgist at Auto Specialties lived there.
