March 6, 2012This IS Your Granny’s Crafting! Crewel Edition
By Betty Crafter
Once again I find myself with my fingers in too many craft pots! I’m working on the skirt for Little Betty I talked about last time, I’m beginning to catch up (finally!) on Andrea’s Mad Men sew along, and I’m more than a little geeked up over this recent craft score:
Let me tell you right now that I love me some vintage crewel embroidery. I get giddy with excitement when I find a framed piece or a pillow that would go perfectly in my home. But never have I tried one of the many NIB vintage kits to be had on ebay or etsy, until I ran across this amazing lion pillow kit.
What is crewel embroidery you ask? It’s embroidery with wool yarn. These kits come with everything you need – the stamped fabric, the wool, trims, zippers, even the needle! Plus they’re easy enough for a beginner to do. Want to try one for yourself? Here’s some great ones for sale!
Lastly, this owl pillow kit isn’t crewel, but it was too awesome not to show you! If you can’t live without it and are willing to drop $49.99 you can Buy It Now from ebay seller Needlework Treasures and Bargains right here.
So – are you inspired to get yourself a vintage crewel kit and start stitching? I am! Now where did I leave my crewel needle…
