April 3, 2012DIY – 1956/57 Style!
At a recent antique show, I spotted a bunch of McCalls Needlework and Crafts magazines, that I had to snap up. This one was the first one that caught my eye:
Instructions for this COMPLETE DO-IT-YOURSELF ROOM? Yes, please! I like to think that I am a pretty hardcore DIYer, but readers, people in the 50s were apparently infinitely more hardcore!
When they say do it yourself, they really mean do it yourself – they talk about weaving your own fabric to upholster the chairs! I am nowhere near that hardcore. However, there are some awesome projects in here that you could definitely do to reproduce your own mid-century touches for your home.
This coffee table with matching mosaic tray is pretty awesome, and I love the plant stand!
I am madly in love with these Mondrian-esque mosaic tv trays! These might have to actually go on my to make list …
Hooking your own rug is pretty hardcore as well, but I really like the design they’ve got here, and how they show different colourway suggestions.
Can’t find the right print for your curtains?? Just stencil your own …
I love the super cute stencilled napkins they show here!
And if you’re feeling really ambitious, here’s the woodworking projects shown – I am thinking I may have to wrangle my husband into making that couch for me at some point!
Instructions for the fighting cocks wall plaques, too!
And if the rug’s not the right size for you, they’ve got instructions on how to make it just about any size.
You can click on any of these pictures to see the full size and make it easier to read.
I hope these will get your DIY juices flowing, readers! Any projects you’d like to tackle?
