Retro Pattern Review – Simplicity 7276

By Andrea

We’re taking a trip back to 1975 today – I recently made up Simplicity 7276 for my younger daughter.

I picked up this pattern at a thrift store recently, which can be a bit of a crap shoot as to what condition the pattern’s going to be in.  However, it was in pretty good shape, and had all of the pieces, so yay!  The fabric I chose was Michael Miller’s Smitten Kitten, which I find to be adorably retro looking.  I also used some pink broadcloth, for contrast.

This pattern was super quick and easy to whip up.  I had the jumper made in about an hour and a half!

I added some white rick rack on the pockets, which the pattern didn’t call for.  However, I love rick rack and think it adds a definite retro touch!

My vintage button collection is sadly lacking in kids buttons, I am afraid.  So, I went with these buttons, which are new, but I think they’ve been producing them for half of forever, so they’re definitely a classic look.

This pattern is a size 3, which is just a little bit big on my daughter right now.  However, I am sure it won’t be for long and it will take her through the summer and into the fall.

Back view.

She loves her new jumper, and thinks it’s great for playing in!

Oh my goodness – Andrea!!! This is soooo cute! I can’t believe it took you only an hour and a half to make such cuteness. I made a similar jumper for my niece for Christmas from a vintage pattern, and it took me hours, even with help from my mom! 🙂

Oh, and I totally approve of the ric-rac. Great touch!

Thanks, Ruth! Most of my sewing is done during Ella’s nap time, so I’ve learned to be pretty speedy!

Just precious! Both her and the jumper – so cute. That fabric is just amazing and yes to rick-rack!

You must be a sewing genius Andrea – to make that in an hour, AMAZING!!! It’s sooooo adorable with the kitties and the rick-rack and your daughter is a total doll in it!

Thanks, Sara! Fortunately, it’s a pattern that went together pretty easily, so I could power through it while she was sleeping! 🙂

I love it!!! Just the kind of thing that is perfect to make in several incarnations for the summer. Now to see if I can score a pattern of my own for Little Betty! 🙂

Thanks, Betty! I am already planning on whipping up a few more for Ella, I think, since it was so easy and perfect for summer!
