Glue For Jeweled Purses and Embroidery Transfer Pencils on Wondering WednesdayWe have some crafty questions this week on Wondering Wednesdays!
Hi Ruth,
I really like the vintage embroidery patterns on your site.
Could you please tell me how do I transfer them on to material?
Thanks
Angela
Hi Angela –
It is actually really easy. Just print out the pattern in the size you need
and then trace the pattern with a fabric transfer pencil. These are
available at JoAnn Fabrics and Michaels, and pretty much everywhere online.
Then you use a hot iron to iron the design onto your fabric and you are ready to embroider!
I just brought home from my mother’s house one of those purse kits. It is called On the Beach. She never finished it I am guessing it was made back in 1959-1960. Of course by now the glue is no good. Can you tell me what kind of glue to use so I can get it done. Thanks for your help.
Hi Christine!
You really can use any glue, but if you want the jewels to really stick try Gem-Tac glue. It is available at Michael’s, Hobby Lobby and, of course, online.
If you have questions about pretty much anything mid-century, please write to us through our contact page or email me at ruth@nopatternrequired.com. We are waiting for your questions!

I personally prefer the transfer pens over the pencils – I like the Sulky ones: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Sulky-iron-on-transfer-pen-only-ink-transfer-pick-color-/170813429836?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item6d73ad6d1a#ht_1620wt_1271
This might be another option for Angela!
