Where to Find Patterns For Vintage Gloves – Wondering Wednesdays

By RetroRuth

We have a really fun question from Sierra submitted via our Facebook page! Sierra writes:

I’ve recently been trying to hunt down information and patterns for ladies gloves… for something so ubiquitous, I’m having a hard time finding anything!
I never fit into vintage ones -my hands are too big. I’d love to make some to complete my retro ensembles!

Well, I have good news for you, Sierra! There are some great glove patterns out there if you know where to look. Here are just a few choices I grabbed from Etsy and eBay; some larger-sized, some variable-sized and some that can be custom-fit!

Glove pattern

This pattern is from patternpeddlerauctions on eBay. It is a pattern with three designs that includes 5 different sizes, XS to XL and can be used with a variety of fabrics.

Here is Butterick Pattern B5370 from hip_ol_granny on eBay. This pattern comes in three sizes (S-M-L) and is uncut.

How To Pattern

This one is from Shellbeestreasures on Etsy, but I believe this is more of a tutorial than it is a pattern since the description indicates there are no pattern pieces included.

McCalls Gloves

A fun pattern from seller luvspups on eBay, McCall’s pattern number 2040, Misses gloves & scarf 1956. Very cute!

Fingerless gloves

A cute fingerless glove pattern from Mrsdepew on Etsy. This one looks like it would be easily customizable to any hand size!

I imagine if you got any of these patterns, Sierra, you could use the instructions to create your own custom glove patterns as well. Good luck on your pattern hunt, and make sure to send us pictures of your finished gloves!

There was a good article on glove making in the October/November 2009 issue of Threads Magazine. And there are patterns here you can use for free: http://www.glove.org

I can never find vintage gloves that fit either; nice to know I don’t have the only bigger hands around!
