This Week In The News – A Bunch Of Pictures Of Pets, We Are On Instagram and Advice Needed For Painting A Living Room

By RetroRuth

It has been an eventful week here. First up, we have some news about a cat and some dogs!

What We’ve Been Doing Besides Writing This Blog

Pet Photo

Can you believe it? Betty Crafter and I both found stray dogs in the same month. Crazy, huh? Well, the cute new pets are:

1. This is Smeagle the Beagle, who was found by me and Tom. We were driving home from delivering Midnight the cat to Sara in AZ when we saw a filthy little dog running along the side of the highway dragging a leash. Well, we stopped to pick him up and found that not only was it an adorable beagle puppy, but he was pretty much the sweetest dog in the world. After trying to find his owners for three weeks and only getting scam emails from our Craigslist post, we decided to find this guy a new home ourselves through a local animal rescue. If you are interested, he is up on Petfinder with some adorable pictures. He is a pretty photogenic guy.

2. Strangely, Betty Crafter also picked up a stray recently, which Little Betty has named Lunchbox. Pretty much the cutest name ever. Luckily Betty has already re-homed this cute little lady with one of her friends. Way to go, Betty!

3. For those of you who are dying for an update of Midnight the cat’s move, she is doing really well with Sara and Mike in Arizona.  She probably sheds more than Sara would like, but I hear that Mike is loving her goofy antics.

News of the Week

Painting vintage rhinestone jewelry, is this really a thing?

Over on the Facebook page we had a spirited discussion about what the deal was with people painting vintage jewelry and exactly how we felt about it.  The consensus: BAD.

Vintage home movies made into adorable music video.

If you haven’t already seen this video, made by ModBetty for her husband’s new song, “Keep the Blue Skies”, you MUST watch it. ModBetty edited the video from home movie clips that she salvaged out of the trash!

Wondering Wednesdays

If you haven’t checked out the pictures reader Lydia sent us of her glam home, you should totally check them out. And now that she has shared something with us, Lydia needs our help!

Thank you everyone for your kind comments. I am thinking of painting the living room walls. They are white now.  I would like pink, but since I am married I have to compromise. Any suggestions? Thanks Lydia

What do you think, guys? Can you help Lydia out? Leave your suggestions for paint colors for Lydia in the comments or email them to me at ruth@nopatternrequired.com. Answers to Lydia’s paint dilemma will be posted next week!

So much pet happiness this week! We’re totally missing Lunchbox around here but she is doing GREAT in her new home. And her new name is Cookie, which I think is equally as cute as Lunchbox! Sara, congrats on the new member of your family!
And Lydia, apologize to your husband for me, but that room just HAS to be pink. No other option in my opinion 🙂

I think in response to Lydia’s question, I’d consider a yellow/gold to make the aqua/pale blue furniture pop. Because the floors and furniture are so light-coloured and the room appears to get a lot of natural light, she can get away with a darker or more saturated colour. A darker coloured wall will make the furniture stand out. The furniture will fade into a light-coloured wall. I’d recommend something like Behr’s “Mesa   320F-5”, “Sweet Maple   320D-5” or a sandy-type coloure.

Alternatively, she can go tone-on-tone with a deeper version of blue/green/aqua on the walls, which will also look good with the light-coloured floors.

Colleen, I LOVE the idea of a yellow-gold on the walls! Lately I’m loving that color with turquoise.

Thank you ladies I love the feedback. My little girl and I of course want pink. The whole house is my taste my husband is really good about it all. He did ask me to move all my lady head vases to the bedroom though. The room does get alot of light im on the hunt for vintage curtains next. Paint scares me i have painted entire rooms then repainted. This weekend i will be getting samples I think a darker aqua would work. There is alot of that shade in there maybe more green. I will keep you posted.

Aw, hey, thanks for posting the Keep The Blue Skies video that I made for “Retro Roadhusband” – so glad I got to share these neat old home movies with a wider audience, as I could not believe someone would just pitch them in the trash!

I say find your curtains first, Lydia, then paint. You might wind up with a print that has another colour in it that you’d like to pull out to paint with.

If Lunchbox hadn’t already found a home, I would be SO tempted 🙂

    Thanks Betty! 🙂

And yes, Mike is getting a kick out of Midnight’s crazy antics, maybe not so much at 2 am, but he takes what he can get! 😉
