October 25, 2012Help Save A Frank Lloyd Wright House Under Threat of Demolition………Sign The Petition Today!
If y’all read my post a few weeks back, you know there is a Frank Lloyd Wright designed house here in Phoenix that could be demolished because developers want to build 2 new McMansions on the property.
It is sometimes frustrating because if I had enough money I’d buy the house myself and restore it. But I just don’t have an extra couple million lying around so what’s a girl to do? Sign a petition, that’s what!!!
Thanks to Jennifer from Jenny’s Cosmic Things for the heads up on the petition to save this special house – she left me a comment on that post letting me know about the petition. I don’t know how on earth that petition escaped my notice, but thank you so much Jenny for letting me know!
Here is the latest update from the change.org website.
Progress Report as of Oct. 17, 2012: Three formal City of Phoenix commissions/committees have recommended Landmark designation for the David and Gladys Wright House. Sincere thanks to members of the Historic Preservation Commission, the Camelback East Village Planning Committee, and the Planning Commission – and to the dozens of citizens who attended and testified at each meeting – for these positive steps. The next step is a decision on November 7 by the Phoenix City Council, comprised of eight council members and the mayor. The Conservancy and its local partners continue to work for Council approval of Landmark status. In addition we are working out of the spotlight to seek additional buyer/buyers for the property. Prior offers have been made but rejected by the owners. If granted Landmark status any demolition permit would be delayed for three years allowing time to find a lasting solution. The city staff has declared that it is “the most significant work within the city of Phoenix by the most significant architect in American history.” It is among the most important of all of Wright’s designs and perhaps the most significant residential design in the last decade of his remarkable career.
The number of petition signatures is reported to Phoenix policymakers, the media, and the general public, and this measure of support and concern does have an impact. The local and international reach of this petition is growing. If everyone who signs would encourage four more to sign those 100,000 signatures would be dramatic! Expand our impact with your signature and those of your friends/colleagues – and help save the David and Gladys Wright House!
So, if everyone reading this could just take 2 minutes to sign the petition and pass it on to someone else that would make such a HUGE difference. I promise that signing the petition is not painful at all…..if I can do it anyone can because I am not a huge petition-signing kind of person as it is! It would show the city of Phoenix that people really do care about these fantastic old homes and maybe, just maybe, we can preserve this home for generations to come.
Please sign the ‘Save The David and Gladys Wright House’ Petition today!
Thanks SO much for your help everyone!!!
