This IS Your Granny’s Crafting! Lion Crewel Pillow

What seems like eons ago, I started a vintage crewel kit for the cutest lion pillow ever. You can read about my grand beginnings here.

Well recently my crewel passion has reached a fever pitch and I revisited my old friend, determined to add another crewel pillow to my collection. The embroidery was a snap. It was the sewing of the dang pillow that gave me fits. And working with burlap is such a pain! It unravels endlessly. I hemmed all the edges hoping to stem it.

Introducing piping or trim of any kind is always a recipe for imperfection for me. I can never get it straight, despite my best efforts.

And even though I read and re-read the instructions, I STILL managed to sew the fringe on going the wrong way. Never you fear! Your pal Betty is lazy brilliant and decided to just topstitch it in the correct direction instead of ripping out miles of stitching!

I won’t even inflict on you my desperation and frustration when inserting the zipper. Dang inserting zippers! Why must it always be so confusing?? Anyhoo, I ended up with a pillow that I really love, where the mistakes are probably only visible to me!

I’m already halfway through another vintage crewel kit and naughty old Betty has another headed her way via eBay! I am nothing if not thoroughly obsessed.
