This IS Your Granny’s Crafting! Walco Ring Kit EditionOne of my all time favorite rings is the white pearl-y one on the left. I love it so much I not only wore it when I got married but also wore it daily until I ruined it – you can see how it’s frayed to a thread. I found the blue one later and was ecstatic. Recently when reading one of my (many) vintage craft magazines I noticed an ad for a Walco kit to make a ring just like these. Well off to ebay I went and before you know it I had this!
So I settled down on the couch after Little Betty was in bed with a glass of wine to watch Downton Abbey and see if I could crochet myself a ring!
I don’t crochet very often, and it was sort of difficult to see the stitches because of all the beads. Also, the directions were pretty sparse and I couldn’t make out if I was supposed to use all the beads. I did use them all and ended up with a ring substantially larger than the ones I already had. It’s almost Sideshow Bob-y. Or like a beehive.
But I love it anyway! I love the gold with the ruby beads.
When it comes to costume jewelry, bigger is always better, right?

Ha ha! “Sideshow Bob-y!” Hilarious.
I actually like it that big. And I am super impressed that you were able to make it with the instructions being sparse.
Also, look at your pillow collection! Ah!

Yes, I think I like it that big too Ruth. Even though it sticks out quite a bit!
And I just wrote a blog post about the pillows here:

Thanks Nancy! That couch is pretty new and I’m still infatuated with it

YES! That is amazing. And now that you’ve done it, looks like the supplies are simple enough you could probably re-create your favorite white one!
(And be still my heart while I faint at the pillows/sofa/knotty pine in the background, of course.)

Tasha, that’s a great point! I think I’ll do that!

Wow! Go you and all!
I think it looks great. I’d have a mangled mess if I even attempted that!

Sara, it is kind of a mangled mess! I think that’s the beauty of this particular project – it can hide a lot of flaws

Oh that’s super cute! And yes, bigger is definitely better when it comes to costume jewelry!
