Gorgeous Illustrated Advertisements From The 1940’sI have to admit that I have some great cookbooks in my collection, but one of my all-time favorites is a community/church cookbook called “From Ridgewood Kitchens”, which is from Ridgewood, New Jersey and was published in 1945. Not only does this cookbook have some great recipes in it, but the illustrations are phenomenal. And it isn’t just the recipes that are illustrated, either. The sponsor ads in the back of the cookbook blow my mind!
I don’t know about you guys, but I really want to get my hair done at The Beauty Mart! And maybe then head off to the florist, and then the ice cream bar…
Stay tuned for more 1940’s ads!

I was thinking “I want my hair done at the Beauty Mart!” And, then I read your last sentence.

Charming! I love vintage graphics & script…when it was done all by hand & not computers. I still get excited when I see an actual ‘sign painter’ hand painting a businesses window with pictures…hardly ever see that anymore.

These are so lovely—to say nothing of the enormous dose of charm due to their being hand-drawn. I recently found The Henry Ford’s online collections, which includes vintage soap packaging, for instance, and was thinking they’d be fun to embroider onto towels, especially for the guest room. Similarly, these designs might be darling embroidered for bathrooms or maybe the kitchen! Thanks for sharing them, they are such a treat.
