April 24, 2013Retro Stitching With A Twist
I haven’t had a sewing post for y’all for awhile, as I’ve been busy with non-retro sewing projects. However, I have been doing some embroidery lately (I need to have something to do when I am sitting in front of the TV!) and there’s a couple of online shops for embroidery patterns I’d like to share!
First off, Grannie Panties on Etsy:
The Grannie Panties store specializes in cross stitch patterns. Many of the patterns in the Grannie Panties store are bits from actual mid-century sampler patterns, mixed with subversive and pop culture quotes.
I thought these patterns were awesome and hilarious. I bought three of them, and am now a third of the way through Hustlin’ 75.
The other site I’d like to mention is Sublime Stitching:
Sublime Stitching has tons of embroidery patterns, that you can either order in iron on transfer form, or purchase a digital download pdf. Tons of the patterns on Sublime Stitching have a very retro feel, so they will fit right in, in your mid-century home. Here’s some embroidery I did on a tea towel from the Chihuahua pattern:
If you’re just getting started with embroidery, or would like a good reference book, I highly recommend the Sublime Stitching book
It’s a great reference for different stitches, and it also comes with a whole bunch of iron on transfer patterns, the majority of which are very retro looking.
I hope this gets your creative juices flowing!
