A Very Retro Reconstruction – An Upcoming Project Preview!

By Andrea

As most of you know, I keep myself busy chasing after my two year old, and selling fabric online on my website Sew What? Also, in addition to that, I also do some sewing for other people. It’s usually just things like repairs and alterations, however sometimes something comes along that I can be more creative with, and work in some retro style!

A friend of mine recently asked me to do something with some caftans that she brought back from Mexico.

She really likes the prints, but she is quite tiny, and it’s a lot of fabric for her to be wearing! She also feels a bit like she’s channelling Mrs. Roper from Three’s Company in them!

As you can see, quite big and really square. She really likes a sleeveless shift dress that I made from Simplicity 3559, which is a vintage pattern that Simplicity reissued a few years ago.

I dug through my vintage pattern stash and found this cute 60s Simplicty shift – Simplicity 7010

This pattern will work well (it’s even the right size, yay!) even with the one change that I plan to make – I am going to keep the original neckline, since it works well with the print.

Check back next week to see how the finished dresses turned out!

Looks FAB, I can’t wait to see what you do with it and girl – if you lived anywhere near me I’d probably have SO many retro projects for you you’d be wanting to hide from me….and of course I’d go broke in the process! 🙂

Thanks, Sara! I am excited to tackle this one, I think they are really going to come out cute! LOL, if I lived closer to you, I think I’d just have to teach you how to sew! 😉
