July 22, 2013Birch Lodge – A Time-Capsule Motel In Michigan
When one of Tom’s co-workers recently informed us that there was a time capsule motel in Michigan called the Birch Lodge, I was shocked. Mostly because I had never heard of Birch Lodge, but also because there was a corner of Michigan that Tom and I hadn’t been to yet. I thought we had been everywhere and scoped out the whole state! And yet…
But not only was Tom’s co-worker nice enough to let me know I was missing out on something so awesome, but he also offered to take pictures for the blog when they stayed at Birch Lodge on their recent vacation. Huzzah!
These rooms were restored so well. If you want to check out pictures of more of the rooms in the motel you can go to their website. There are also better pictures of the red/orange headboards, which I love.
According to their website, Birch Lodge was originally opened as a TB Sanitarium in 1911. In 2010 they began restoration of the lodge and motel, with plans to re-open the lodge as a bed and breakfast in the future!
You can follow them on their blog if you want to read more about restoration and see more pictures.
Here is the bar in the lodge. I love it.
Another shot of the lodge. The wallpaper is vintage, and here is a close-up of it:
Looks like a fun place to have a beer, doesn’t it?
Thanks so much to Tom’s co-worker for taking all these great pictures, and I have to say that I hope that I make it to Birch Lodge soon to check out their recently restored rooms!
