Happy Fourth of July!

By Sara In AZ

I hope everyone is having a happy and festive Fourth of July holiday today!

I found these lovely images of a Fourth of July picnic from the 1950s and I thought y’all would love to see them too.

Have a great holiday today!

There are so many lovely details here! I love the thermoses (plural? thermosi? thermoose?) and the tablecloth. Also, the little boy with the paper parasol! All of the women’s dresses are beautiful!

I love that all the residents could block off the street to have their picnic. And I am sure no complained. You could not do that now without changing a city ordinance, getting a permit and approaching the town council for permission. My how times have changed 🙁

Sherree – It’s pretty amazing to think a time existed in this world where neighbors actually wanted to get together and make a block party happen……now-a-days you probably couldn’t even get anyone to agree on what day to have it! 🙂
