August 29, 2013March 1956 : Let’s All Go On A Honeymoon Trip With Sally Jo and Dean – Part 3
These are the honeymoon memories of Sally Jo and Dean Kilpatrick from late March 1956.
We left off last time with Sally Jo and Dean unhappy with the selection of motels in Port Arthur Texas and deciding to drive onto Beaumont to (hopefully!) find a better selection.
Hee! Looks like the poor kids got lost again….I have to admit I don’t know what I’d do without my GPS!
They decided to stay at the Castle Motel in Beaumont.
I guess they liked Beaumont SO much they decided to take a break from all of that driving and stay for 2 nights! It appears they shopped around Beaumont on the 26th…..I can’t tell you how much I wish I could see a picture of them in the cowboy hats they bought that day…..I’ll just bet they looked adorable!
Here is an old postcard image of the Castle Motel ,when it was brand spanking new, from Card Cow.
And here is another old postcard image of the Castle Motel from Flickr member William Bird. Sally Jo was right – that is a nice swimming pool!
Here is a more recent image from Google Maps of the Castle Motel, but unfortunately it looks like the motel has seen better days – as the Castle was shut down and condemned in April of 2012. I don’t know why but I find that so, so, so sad. It looks like it used to be one really amazing motel…it’s so sad it was let go to such a state where the city condemned the place.
Here are the only pictures that were inside the scrapbook. There are no names on any of the pictures, so I have no idea who anyone in the photographs is supposed to be. Should we speculate that is Sally Jo in the upper left corner??? Perhaps that is her parents to the right? I wish I knew!
Ahhhhhh, and here you see her angst at forgetting the darn camera…….if only you had remembered Sally Jo…..if only you had remembered!
Come back next Thursday for Part 4 (the final installment) of Sally Jo and Dean’s honeymoon trip!
