September 30, 2013Sue’s Gorgeous Jewelry Collection and More Lovelies from Purple Daisy Jewelry
Get ready to gasp with delight! Today we are showcasing the lovely Sue, her amazing personal jewelry collection AND some wonderful jewelry from her Etsy shop Purple Daisy Jewelry. If you haven’t gone over to take a look at her shop yet you need to check it out, but before you go make sure you read Sue’s lovely story of how she began in the vintage jewelry business and the heartwarming stories behind her personal jewelry collection! Sue writes:
My mom loved vintage before it was cool and it eventually rubbed of on me. My first vintage treasure was a spool bed she rescued from some relative’s barn in Tupelo while we were visiting my grandparents when I was about 7-8 years old. We hauled it back to Texas and she refinished it to put in my bedroom. When I was about ten, my mom’s interest became more focused on vintage jewelry. I was young and didn’t care too much about anything except eating, reading and playing (probably in that order!) Shortly after my son’s birth, I found a beautiful 14K gold cameo pin for a bargain price at a garage sale . . . and the rest is history.
I am a very visual person and I shop by sight and emotion. I scan a table or case or box and look for items that just “grab” me – for whatever reason. If it ends up having a great name – just another plus. I personally love hearts, crosses, lockets, filigree, and great metalwork on the band of a ring.
My prized vintage items are all jewelry from my mom. This pendant is actually my grandfather’s wedding band left to my mom as the only child. She had my initial charm attached in the middle with a tiny diamond on it and a bail soldered on top so I could wear it as a necklace.
My mom also had this ring made just for me. She had a vintage white and yellow gold heart element from a broken piece of jewelry found on a treasure hunt soldered to an antique band with lovely metal work on the sides.
This sterling silver bootie was apparently from my brother to me when I was born and is engraved “Debora 19—.” (a girl has to have some secrets!) It has the box it came in which reads “From Michael To: Debora” on the back in my mom’s handwriting.
My mom wore this heavy, sterling old boot charm on a long chain for years and it was vintage when she bought it. (It is very big and heavy).
I have to confess, I got very teary eyed pulling all this out to photograph it. My mom passed away March of 2011 and I still miss her so much.
I get great happiness from connecting people to pieces that bring them joy. Customers often times buy items to wear in their wedding or for their wedding party. Sometimes customers purchase items because someone special had “one just like it,” or they lost “one just like it” and it was from someone special. These stories always make my day.
In addition to jewelry I love vintage Christmas items, and any vintage print items like postcards, greeting cards, photos, old letters, etc.
I now have four shops: Purple Daisy Jewelry, Ehaskell Vintage (men’s jewelry), HoliDaisy (vintage Christmas jewelry and décor), and Vintage Potluck. They are my passion and I hope it shows. Please feel free to come over to see what I have to offer, and don’t be afraid to drop me a note, whether it is just to say “hi”, to talk about jewelry, or to say, “I saw you on NPR!”
Thanks, Sue! I have to say, the gifts that were made for you by your mother are just gorgeous. The pendant made with your grandfather’s ring is stunning!
