Vintage Sewing eBay Roundup – Thinking Tropical Edition

by Andrea

In keeping with my think-nice-warm-tropical-thoughts-since-it’s-so-dang-cold-out theme of this week, I’ve got some vintage swimsuit patterns for you today – let’s take a look.

First up, we have this Vintage 1969 Simplicity Top, Hip Huggers & Bathing Suit Pattern

So 60’s.  Love the mini-dress coverup in this pattern, too.

Next, we have this 1972 Vintage Simplicity Pattern

Love the tie side bikini bottoms with the big ties on this one, as well as the halter neck one piece.

Then, we have this vtg 1949 Simplicity Pattern #2874 – Bathing Suit & Beach Coat

Can you say adorable??  This swimsuit is so late 40’s/early 50’s/New Look with such a full skirt!

Here, we have this Vtg 1960s Butterick #3545 -2-pc Rockabilly Swimsuit, Coverup

Love, love, LOVE the boy-short bottoms with the belt on this one.  The ruffled bottoms are super cute, too!

Finally, we have this Vtg McCall's Pattern 3185 Misses Swim Suits & Skirt

Once again, I am loving the halter top style – why don’t they make this style in swimsuit anymore?  Also love the effortlessly cool maxi-skirt coverup!

Have a great weekend, and stay warm, everybody!

I totally thought of you when I saw it, Sara – It’s the full skirts you love, but in swimsuit form!

I remember that style in the first pattern..I had a bathing suit similar to the yellow one but, it was more of a bikini top with a lacey part that hung down. That lacey part I eventually cut off since it just clung wet to the skin. It was a popular style ‘tho ’cause I remember other girls having similar suits at the local pool. In the ’70s I made my own two piece bathing suit..get this..out of terry cloth! What was I thinking? And, being modest I doubled the fabric..first time wearing it was on a boat in the Pacific ocean..I jumped in and nearly sank! I wonder if that is when my fear of the ocean started?!

OMG terrycloth! That would have definitely been one that was better for just laying on the beach! I can imagine how heavy that was!
