Retro Craft Time–Let’s Make a Mermaid Soap Pump!

By Sara In AZ

Sooooo, since my first foray into making a retro look soap pump for the Poodle Bathroom was a success I threw caution to the wind and decided to make another soap pump for the master bath! In the master bath I (eventually) plan to hang up some vintage mermaids, so I thought a mermaid theme soap pump would be *perfect*!

We went back to IKEA and bought a different soap pump this time…..one that you can purchase individually. This time I purchased the BESTAENDE soap pump.

I bought some more transfers from emmaleens-vintiques……….

I thought this adorable mermaid and seahorse transfer would look great on a soap pump in that bathroom!

I cleaned the soap pump off with rubbing alcohol.

I cut out my decal………….

……………let it soak for about one minute……………..

…….placed the transfer decal on the soap pump then waited overnight for it to fully dry – then took the pump outside to spray coat it with a Matte finish……………..

……………..and *huzzah* we have the cutest mermaid soap pump ever!

I’m on a soap pump making extravaganza right now….it’s crazy…..I’m thinking about making one for the kitchen and one for the powder room bathroom! Will the madness ever stop?!

So adorable, Sara! How is your first soap pump holding up? Was wondering how it was faring with the moisture/humidity of the bathroom?

Thanks Andrea! You know, I think it is imperative to seal it with some kind of poly spray or something….maybe even Mod Podge would work? I am pretty sure if the transfer was not sealed it would start pulling up over time. esp. in a moisture ridden environment! Anyway, to answer your question – the poodle pump looks just a great as the day I finished it…..no problems yet at all!
