Won’t You Be My Neighbor – Bethesda, Maryland

By MidModMichelle

Howdy folks! I hope this Super Bowl Sunday finds you well! I must admit that I’m not much of a sports fan, but it’s still fun to get together with friends and family because their enthusiasm is contagious. 🙂 Obviously I am a huge fan of cool mid-century homes though, and this split-level has quite the potential to be glorious. Apparently Bethesda is an upscale suburb of Washington D.C. which explains the lofty selling price.

This home is located at 6759 Brigadoon Dr, Bethesda, Maryland on a beautiful lot in a sought-after neighborhood. It is a 5 bedroom, 4 bath, undisclosed square feet home built in 1961 that is being offered at $924,700. The listing is courtesy of Diana Keeling at Coldwell Banker. For more information and additional photos you can check out the listing here. From the listing:

This spectacular Mid-century modern home is situated on a quiet and peaceful street in one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in the area. Absolutely stunning lot situated in the heart of Bannockburn. Anderson windows recently installed. Close proximity to the C&O Canal, Glen Echo Park, and shops. Sold in As-Is condition.

(I think a bright color on the garage door and front door would look spectacular!)

(That light fixture is to die for!)

(Another awesome light fixture! Love that fireplace and the built-ins!)

(This kitchen could be mod-ed up quite easily!)

(Super cool wall mounted lamp!)

(Obviously updated, and where are the photos of the other 3 bathrooms? I wonder if any are original.)

I like this one quite a bit, minus the nearly million dollar price tag! 😉 What did y’all think?

    It’s a great house!

It wouldn’t take much to make the kitchen “POP” just by adding some color. I can’t understand why we went through a period of making everything so bland.

There’s some great furniture throughout the house, also.

That’s a hefty price tag for the house and it looks like it needs a new roof.

Bethesda is one of the priciest areas near Washington DC. It is not unusual for homes like this to be bought as teardowns, even at that price. Let’s hope this house has a happier fate.

Fortunately there seems to be a growing appreciation for great MCM houses in this area, especially with this new crop of well-to-do yuppies. (Does anyone use that term anymore?) There’s a good chance this place will find a sympathetic buyer who will turn it into the great home it could so easily be.

I see the most brilliant orange possible on the garage and front doors.
