Mike and Sara Rehab a 60s Retro Ranch : Installing A Vintage Hall Mack Towel Ring in the Hall Bathroom

By Sara In AZ

Whew, ok y’all….it’s been a while since I posted any updates on our retro ranch! We just wrapped up the restoration/renovation of our hallway bathroom so over the next weeks (every Tuesday) I will be showing our progress with a new post each week. You will have to stick with it to the end as we capped the room off with a special surprise that I am just in love with…so stay tuned!

In case you all have forgotten what the hall bath was like (which I am sure you probably have!) let’s refresh everyone’s mind on what the bathroom did look like!

I painted the vanity out before we moved in, if you want to check out that post here is a link:

Whooooo-weeeee I just took a look back at that post and I had forgotten how BAD the cabinets looked…..SO glad I painted them!

So, here were are last November…we were left with a new floor that looked completely out of place that the seller’s had just installed, prior to our purchase, in order to make the house more “sell-able”.

The walls had been painted a really bland beige and they had removed the original wood baseboards and installed tile baseboards to match the tile.

We also had a “modern” toilet to contend with.

And again, some pretty drab walls.

You can see how I didn’t even tape off the floors when I painted the vanity…..there is paint all over the tiles….I know, I am a horrible person aren’t I?! Smile

This bathroom was just doing nothing for me, I HAD to get a mid-century vibe going back on in here or it was going to drive me insane!!!

To kick off this series of renovation posts we will start with the installation of a vintage New Old Stock Hall Mack Towel Ring!

We have this little slice of wall to the left of the sink/vanity…..I am sure there must have been some kind of towel ring there in the past but if there was it was long gone by the time we bought the house. We knew we needed something for a hand towel type of towel in that bathroom…but what?

I had no idea what kind of towel ring I wanted…I searched day and night…well – almost! Then I landed on this little beauty on eBay.

Hmmmmm, what’s a “386-C” towel ring  you ask??????

Well, it’s only the sweetest little gold glitter-y towel ring you have ever laid your eyes on!

I don’t think I could ever love gold glitter more than I do right now!

So, we decided exactly where we wanted it and drilled 2 holes where the screws on the mounting bracket would go.

Mounting bracket now installed!

And whoooooooohooooooo-hooooooooooo we FINALLY have a towel ring in the hall bath after 2 years!!!

But gosh, what towel  should I use on the towel ring? I found this perfect set of new old stock poodle bath towels from seller Vintage Fallout on Etsy. The seller was lovely to deal with, definitely check out her shop!

The towel were all packed so perfectly!

Of course I felt horrible taking them out of the box after all of this time…but I *really* wanted to use them!

After I washed up all of the towels I hung one on our new glittery towel ring and I think it looks just perfect!

Come back next Tuesday to see another super special piece get installed in the hall bathroom!

I was already sold on all the glitter, but when I saw the Made in U.S.A. on the towel, my heart fluttered for a minute. Perfect.

Love it! I was going through Thursday withdrawal since we finished viewing projects at your mom’s place. So glad to have another series to follow week-to-week.

    Oh – My – God!

Love love love! Especially the poodle towels.

I am still searching for the perfect mid-century towel ring.

BTW, did I ever tell you. After my mom passed. I was cleaning out her hope chest and I found never-been-used mid-century pink bath towels. They were the cutest things ever. They had a black diamond trim on the bottom. I have them in my bathroom. Not for use, mostly decoration. 🙂 They look great against the blue tile walls.
