April 20, 2017Refinishing a 1950s Heywood Wakefield M794 G Step End Table with Drawer
By Sara In AZ
Continuing on with my Heywood Wakefield refinishing series, we actually have a few brand new refinishing posts coming up! Yes, that is right – some of our H-W you have never seen before!
Soooooo, recently-ish I realized I completely forgot to post about some Heywood I had bought/refinished about 5 years ago! Eeps!!! But hey, better late than never right?!
I bought a pair of these step end tables with drawers back in 2012…as of the time this picture was taken one table was already outside getting sanded!
I really, really love the step tables with the drawers and had wanted a set for a while – when some popped up on Craigslist I jumped on them!
However, as you can see, the tables did need refinishing…..what a surprise right!?
Lots of scratches and dings in both of the tables.
Here you can see the table has been dismantled in preparation for sanding.
Sanding in progress……………..
And we are done with sanding! Yay!
Now we are onto the staining.
If you would like to see an in-depth look at my staining process please see the post Refinishing Our Heywood Wakefield M328 Desk Bookcase…….The Definitive Post on Refinishing! – that post will give you all the in’s and out’s of my refinishing process.
I always use the same Wheat ‘Heywood’ stain I get off of a seller on E-Bay. There is a seller on there, needful useful things, who mixes stain to match Champagne and Wheat finishes of Heywood Wakefield blonde furniture. It is a stain and topcoat all in one so you do not have to worry about a lot of steps. I have always had really good luck with his stains, and he will mix custom colors for you if you need that as well. Here is a link to his E-Bay store needful_useful_things . He is a really great seller who is super nice to deal with and is really customer service orientated as well! Check him out!!!
Here you can see one fully refinished table next to another one that still needs refinishing….such a difference!
And after a lot of work sanding and staining the other table, we now have a beautiful set of step end tables!
Here is one of the tables all set-up at the retro ranch!
Stay tuned – another “new” Heywood Wakefield refinishing post coming up next Thursday!
