Mike and Sara Rehab a 60s Retro Ranch : The Powder Room Bathroom is FINALLY Finished!!!!!!

By Sara In AZ

Whoa Nellie, I can’t believe I’m about to say this…..but we have actually completely and totally finished all projects in one room in the house…the powder room bathroom!!! I am SO excited, you have no idea, that we can finally check the box off as “Done” on this room!

First, let’s take you all back to the very, very beginning as a refresher so that y’all can remember all the big and little things we have  done in this room!

Here we are on day one. Nothing had been done to this room yet, except the sellers had just installed the large size ceramic tiles.

The cabinet was in really, really sad shape so I painted it and we added new/old atomic hardware.

Then we removed all of the new tile and installed new vintage look mosaic tile from Merola.

In the process I also painted all the walls a pale aqua blue and we added some atomic bathroom hardware into the bathroom.

Lastly, we hung wallpaper in the bathroom….love, love love this Graham and Brown “Housewives” wallpaper – unfortunately it is no longer available.

So, y’all might be thinking, “What more is there to do Sara? The bathroom looks finished.” Well, there was one more thing gnawing and gnawing away at me every time I went into the bathroom….and that was the grout. It doesn’t look SO bad in this view……………….

…..but once you get up close you can see the grout is discolored and…………….

…..it’s chipping out in various places.

Just generally the grout is not very nice looking.

I hated having this nice looking bathroom with a really sad sink area. So we pondered this and we sat on this problem for months, because really…who gets excited about chipping out and re-doing tile grout?! Not me!!!! Smile

The one day a few months back we decided to just go for it and we started chipping out the grout.

Little by little we worked on this until we had enough of the old grout out to re-grout with the new grout. Doing all of those little tiles around the sink…ugggghhhhh, pure torture!!!

Whew-weeeee, FINALLY done scraping out the old grout and we are ready for the new grout!

Also, I don’t think I’ve ever shown this before……..some of the original “Flower Power” daisy wallpaper was left intact behind the mirror in this bathroom! I loved seeing that and we just left it there so future homeowners would know what the original wallpaper was like too!

And onto the re-grouting!

Still grouting…..

….getting so close now!

And whooooo-hooooo we are done with the grout and now we are adding a fresh bead of grout caulk along the top of the tiles (where the tape is).

Whoa…..it looks SO much better already!!!! Squee!!!!!!

No more chipping grout, no more discolored grout!!! YAY!

The final piece of the puzzle was to change out this half broken big box store faucet………

…….for one of our New Old Stock vintage Moen faucets!

And we are finally DONE in here y’all!!!!

It only took us what – 3 years! Eeps! Better late than never right?!

Totally worth the effort on the grout. It looks great and the finishing touch with the faucet is fab.

I just love it all! That wallpaper is fab 🙂 I also have a grout issue on the sink and counter top in our original tiled hall bath. We have been putting it off for 5 years! It is on our list though 🙂 Seems we are never finished with these older homes.
