Won’t You Be My Neighbor – Colgate, Wisconsin

By MidModMichelle

Prepare to be intrigued today y’all- this mid-century modern post and beam home is really unique! I love a fun and quirky home, and this one really fits the bill for me. You can definitely see the Japanese design influence in this one. I wish we knew something about the architect, because this is clearly not a cookie cutter tract home. If any readers out there have some insight, please feel free to share! Let’s check it out!

This home is located at 1070 Oconobanks Dr, Colgate, Wisconsin on over 2 wooded acres. It is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 1,826 square foot home built in 1969 that is being offered at $289,900. The listing is courtesy of Dawn Esaman at Homeowners Concept. For more information and additional photos you can check out the listing here. From the listing:

On a quiet cul de sac you’ll find this stunning custom post & beam mid-century modern home inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright w/ stone glass & period details. Located on 2+ acre heavily wooded lot you’re surrounded by tiered & sculpted lawn & gardens. Wood ceilings throughout, Japanese style soaking tub, mid-century built-ins. Light shines in from all angles to enjoy the view! Lower level has a patio door–ready to be a finished room. Property will be ‘as is’ since it’s largely untouched/unique mid-century. Large deck & patio enhance your enjoyment of steep terrain the Holy Hill area.

ADDITIONAL EXTERIOR

ENTRYWAY

(Such a dynamic and interesting foyer!)

LIVING ROOM

(Incredible living room with the tall built-in shelving, stone fireplace and walls of windows!)

DINING ROOM

EAT-IN KITCHEN

(Wish the photo color was better, looks like the sink and oven might be a pretty yellow!)

BEDROOMS

BATHROOMS

(The master bath and shower is soooo cool!!)

YARD

(Wow, what a view!)

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this one! I like the use of the large stones in the design, but some may think it has too heavy a feel. I kind of see it as grounding I guess. Overall I’d live there in a heartbeat, especially at that price point!

The stonework is not to my taste, but fits the setting beautifully, and there seems to be just the right amount. Love the railing setting off the dining area. The kitchen looks very tight, no bigger than mine, surprising for such a glamorous place.

The house appears to be original, no remodeling done here. In 1969 that would have been a nice kitchen. I like it’s compactness and the fact that it does appear to be all original. My 1976 kitchen is about the same but lacking the beautiful view.

I like it! I wouldn’t want the stonework in the shower as it might be hard to keep clean but I like it everywhere else.

Pebble showers are actually easier to clean! 🙂

I like the curves and angles used in the design of the house – especially the barrel ceilings in the downstairs rooms. Nice!

All that stone is very Flintstones-esque! 😉

The stone is lovely, it is all those strange hexagons that throw it off. If those were changed and a few other minor details it would be perfect.
