Won’t You Be My Neighbor – Sacramento, California

By MidModMichelle

Get ready folks, today’s California dream home is going to BLOW. YOUR. MIND. Our friends Shane and Mel from Hepcats Haven are the proud owners of this epic atomic ranch that they lovingly restored to absolute perfection. Sadly they must pass the kitschy torch on due to a work-related move. Please everyone, send good mid-century loving mojo their way so they find the perfect buyers! Prepare yourself for swoonville and let’s get on with the show!!!

This home is located at 6573 S Land Park Dr, Sacramento, California on a lovely corner lot in a desirable neighborhood. It is a 3 bedroom, 3 bath, 1,779 square foot home built in 1959 that is being offered at $509,000. The listing is courtesy of James Safonov at JTS Realty. For more information and additional photos you can check out the listing here. From the listing:

South Land Park Mid Century Beauty on a .27 acre corner lot! This atomic ranch charmer was home to the community builder (Floyd Calvin Cantrell), so no options were left on the table! This lovely home has 3 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, separate living and family rooms, large laundry room w/ LG front loading washer & dryer, and a spacious enclosed lanai connects the home to the massive garage. Expansive dual pane windows in the large living room, new VCT flooring, bamboo floors & 2 wood burning fireplaces. Flowing concept is great for entertaining! Large attached lanai with new Anderson windows & glossy teak ceilings w/ fans and original space heater. The lanai is perfect for a man cave or tiki room. Let your imagination run wild! Spacious garage and new oversized driveway ideal for an RV or boat. New cement walkways around the front of the home, new brick planters, new front landscape lighting (including motion sensors), and new topiaries line the front of the home. Custom mid century style front door with NOS starburst escutcheons plates around the door handles. The rear yard is perfect for family fun. The kitchen is equipped with new Big Chill retro-styled appliances such as a 20.6 cu. ft. refrigerator, a smaller 14.4 cu. ft refrigerator, induction cooktop, and dishwasher all finished in Pink Lemonade. The oven face and all hoods were professionally powder coated to match the Big Chill appliances. This home is also equipped with some really unique and original Nutone features such as a built in counter-top blender and whole home intercom/radio system.

The owners, Shane and Mel of Hepcats Haven:

Why Shane and Mel love their home:

We love the original mid century features of this home. One of the first things that sold us on the home was the fifties atomic fish wallpaper in the pink bathroom that also has a built-in fold down wall scale. Lots of other original features such as atomic styled light fixtures and cabinet/drawer pulls are throughout the house. We are collectors of mid century decor and this home was the perfect platform to showcase our collection. We showcased our collection and home on our website hepcatshaven.com. This eventually led to our home being included in the 2016 SacMod Mid Century Modern Home tour. Our home has also been used in many published photoshoots, even having actor Kevin Rahm of Mad Men fame shoot at our home for Sacramento Magazine! In the backyard, there are two Meyer lemon trees that produce the juiciest lemons we have ever tasted. They are FANTASTIC for cooking. There is also a pear tree that produces fruit on occasion. South Land Park is a unique community. Many of the home owners in our area are devoted to preserving the originality of their homes. We have wonderful neighbors and have built some really great friendships and memories while living here. Neighbors are friendly and will stop to talk to you or lend a helping hand. We will miss South Land Park and we hope that whomever buys this home will enjoy it as much as we have.

If you aren’t catching your breath after seeing this one, you need to check your pulse. I mean WOWWWWWW, right?! I wish I could buy the home and furnishings exactly as they had it set up, because holy cow it was jaw-droppingly well done. Bravo Shane and Mel, and good luck on the next chapter! This is so much awesomeness (is that a word?), that it’s difficult to take it all in. Just glorious! I have to comment, though. Isn’t that a 1956 Chevy, and the house wasn’t built until 1959. Just sayin’. I loved the interiors–like a time capsule. I would love to live there! Thanks for posting.

So the family who lived there in 1959 couldn’t have a 3 year old car? 🙂 I

I’m so glad they included the pictures of the empty rooms. The ones that are all kitsched up distract from the MCM pure goodness of the actual house and design features.

Such a COMPLETELY fabulous house and collections…..I’m SO glad you have included the “before” pictures so I could see the rooms in all their kitsched up glory and, in my opinion, do not detract at all. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this lovely home finds just the *right* buyers to fully appreciate the beautiful and special house that it is.

Great house but insanely great collection of furniture! Not only that, but it looks neat and clean inside while still housing a huge amount of stuff, and that’s a hard look to pull off. I’m going to have to save these pictures for future inspiration.

PS That Chevy is a ’55 model.
